Shaun C Badham – Only a partially blind man would be hyper sensitive to 1970s children climbing frames, 2014, 29 x 21cm, five acetate prints with circular wooden wall attachments
Shaun`s new body of work titled Only a partially blind man would be hyper sensitive to 1970s children climbing frames, is part of a body of ongoing research and analysis focusing on Victoria Park in Essex. He initially encountered the area for the first time when walking his parents’ dog in June 2014 and the location became his refuge, a place to contemplate an accident he had sustained that May. Drawn to the urban ruin of the abandoned climbing frames he began to document them using photography, drawing and text. For Shaun the climbing frames resemble an aspiration of a future that cannot be, they have been left to become relics of a previous life; stuck in a ‘limbo period’, something he wishes to relieve them from.
A graduate of the University of the West of England, Bristol, Shaun works across the South of England, most recently showing I’M STAYING at the Arnolfini as part of Bristol Art Weekender.
