Stephen Smith is particularly interested in the shape, form and nature of mixed material within process and how a language develops between works; a language that is built up over time. Through a constant re-working and editing process, new contexts for the work are formed. Stephen is currently working on a body of work based on a trip he took to Chernobyl and the Russian Space Centre as artist in resident with the Unknown Fields Division.
Stephen has presented and exhibited internationally including exhibitions at MU Eindhoven, Netherlands, Nam June Paik Centre in Seoul, South Korea and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, UK. He is a studio member at Karst in Plymouth.
